Little done in favour of the thousands of Peruvian victims[]
After a long, long year and as far as I know, nothing or little has been done in favour of the thousands of Peruvian victims (of the 15 August 2007 earthquake). Will a conference (e.g. this online discussion) resolve even a minimal part of this situation? With the greatest respect to your activity, I shall suggest something better: a new crusade to send more help to the older people and children whom are dying at the centre part of Peru (Huancavelica and Ica) because of cold and frozen conditions!! My references? People who are helping those in desperate need of food and warm clothes even after a whole year!!

The letter from Gregorio Cueto summarises extremely well the dilemma faced by those dealing with the longer term solutions at a time when immediate needs are still not being met. It is of course important to have people working side by side on short term emergency relief and on the longer term aspects of reconstruction, rehabilitation and regeneration. I agree that a "system for collaborative research" will do little in the immediate term. But if the system were in place, research could - much more quickly - be undertaken into existing problems.
