Please use these pages to discuss the page (what's on the page) "Journal of Peruvian Studies". To discuss more generally the Journal and its relationship with other Peruvian Studies sites in wikia please use the Forum (see menu at top).

Pro tem (for now) we are using "Journal of Peruvian Studies (OCE)" as the working title for the new academic journal which will be closely related to other educational, research and knowledge-sharing work of the communities. Use this forum to discuss the title and general features of the journal Each webpage / article also will have its own discussion forum for more focused discussion related specifically to that page.

The journal has been initiated by the Peru Earthquake(*) Aid Committee as a space for literary donations under the "Just Write for Peru" appeal. The Earthquake Appeal is asking all Peruvianists to "give" an article or other media to the "knowledge commons".

Discussion about Wikipedia Edit

How is Minkapedia different from the better-known Wikipedia?Edit

Minkapedia differs from wikipedia in that it is in the "academia" wiki: i.e. articles would be periodically reviewed by specialists and bookmarked AND all articles could eventually reach the standard of a published scholarly article. Minkapedia takes its name from Minka, the Peruvian newspaper established by Isaac Bigio in 2005. Minkapedia uses wikipedia / wikia software. "Minka" is borrowed from the Andahualas Quechua "Minka" (Mink'a in Cuzco) meaning collaborative working. "Pedia" derives from the Greek, meaning education. Minkapedia therefore signifies "collaborative education". "Encyclopedia" would have meant "general education" but has come to mean the text or book where that is set down, or a specific sub-set of "total knowledge", for example "encyclopedia of plumbing". The academia wiki is a "community" sharing knowledge.
